In Guatemala, 39% of indigenous women between age 15-64 are literate; Only 9% of girls go to school, receiving on average 3 years of schooling and over 50% are pregnant by the age of 19.

Indigenous girls are invariably at a disadvantage despite their potential and what they can bring to the table. By connecting young women to the market of sustainable tourism, Casa Maya provides economic empowerment for young indigenous women and an improved quality of living for them and their families.

Casa Maya is a social enterprise own and run by indigenous women, developing women skills to become hosts and their houses to be market ready for tourist looking for sustainable and authentic experiences.
